Rare pair of late 17th Century Japanese powder blue globular vases of small proportions. This kind of decoration (solid blue background with overglaze gold decoration) is typical of Chinese porcelain. Japanese potters attempted to replicate it but with less success hence the rarity of this colour scheme. We only had one vase such as these before. An interesting fact: a leaf of one of the two vases has been painted in green enamel and it was most probably a mistake during the decorating process. Rare Pair of 17th Century Japanese Arita Powder Blue Vases as Lamps

A large late 17th century Japanese octagonal Arita blue and white vase, circa 1680. The vase is of octagonal baluster form, boldly painted with rocks and large blossoming foliage composed around the entire body within stylized borders. This vase has exceptionally good dark and light blue glaze saturation as well as virtuoso decoration stylistically typical of this period. As the vase has a hairline crack and a reduced neck we have made it into a fabulous lamp. It has a handmade wood octagonal gilded lid and a hand-turned gilded base.

Chippendale Piecrust Tilt-Top Tea Table, English, ca. 1760-1780, in mahogany, with birdcage mechanism over fluted column terminating in an elegant pedestal urn. On carved legs and feet. The decoration on the feet and legs is possibly 19th century. Good colour and lovely figured top. Provenance: Famous English Screen and Stage personality.

Mid 18th Century Red Lacquer Looking Glass

These handsome large jars and covers are wonderful examples of the grand Chinese porcelains made for export in the Kangxi period(1662-1722) Decorated in underglaze blue, each panel encloses finely painted plants and flowers, in a distinctive style that uses pencilled hatched lines, recalling European prints of the time. Such wares were eagerly bought, when they reached the West, and used to decorate the public rooms of palaces and the grand country houses of the aristocracy. They epitomise the Dutch taste, brought to England by King William and Queen Mary, which filled Kensington Palace and Hampton Court with blue and white porcelain. Large covered jars were often bought in pairs, to stand on the floor in a hall or long gallery, while in the summer months they might have been placed to furnish a large empty fireplace.
