A well executed terracotta bozzetto depicting the Virgin, Italy, Rome, circa 1650-1670. The Mother carrying baby Jesus in her left arm and holding the infant St.John with her right hand. The harmonious and well proportioned composition, purely baroque, suggests it may be the work of a Tuscan or Roman sculptor. Three small holes, two on the base and one at the back, from thermoluminescence test commissioned by the previous owner.

The sculpture depicts the warrior God "Guandi". Seated on a throne, clad in armour and loose fitting robe, decorated in aubergine, turquoise and yellow glaze.. The face and hands left unglazed because they would have been cold painted after the firing. Guandi is the Chinese god of war whose immense popularity with the common people rests on the firm belief that his control over evil spirits is so great that even actors who play his part in dramas share his power over demons.

An impressive late 18th century (1780-1800) South Indian (Tamil Nadu) polychrome wooden sculpture. Depicting the 9th century Tamil poet and Saint Manikkavacakar. On a modern dark metal veneered base. Manikkavacakar was a 9th-century Tamil poet who wrote Tiruvasakam, a book of Shaiva hymns. He was one of the main authors of Saivite Tirumurai, his work forms volume eight of the Tirumurai, the key religious text of Tamil language Shaiva Siddhanta. A minister to the Pandya king Varagunavarman II (c. 862 CE–885 CE), he lived in Madurai.
